Offmore Primary School

P.E.

Our intent for P.E

At Offmore Primary we aim to provide a high quality, broad, balanced and
progressive curriculum. The curriculum is broad, balanced and is designed to
enable pupils to become physically literate. Through high quality PE pupils
discover their aptitudes, abilities and preferences and make informed choices
about how to get involved in lifelong physical activity.

Aspirations for P.E

Non-negotiables for P.E

Pupils have two hours of PE timetabled per week through which we develop core skills to enable children to become well-rounded young sportsmen and women. The curriculum is broad, balanced and is designed to enable pupils to become physically literate. Through high quality PE pupils discover their aptitudes, abilities and preferences and make informed choices about how to get involved in lifelong physical activity.

Pupils develop their fundamental movement skills in the Early Years; locomotion, stability and object control and as they grow they combine these skills into complex movements before applying these skills into sport specific areas as they reach Year 5/6. PE provides pupils with the opportunity to be creative, competitive and face up to different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams. It promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy and active lifestyle. Pupils learn how to think in different ways and make decisions in response to creative, competitive and challenging activities. They learn how to reflect on their performance, plan, perform and evaluate actions, ideas and performances to improve the quality of their work.

Pupils are given the opportunity to swim during KS2 and we aim for all pupils leaving the school to be able to swim at least 25m.

The planning and delivery of the PE curriculum will ensure that each pupil will have the opportunity to:

  • Acquire and develop new skills.
  • Select and apply appropriate skills, tactics and compositional ideas.
  • Evaluate their own and others’ performance in order to improve.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of how PE and sport contributes to staying physically, mentally and emotionally healthy.
  • Experience a range of roles – performer/coach/official/leader.
  • Planning will provide opportunities to link with other areas of the curriculum e.g. ICT, literacy, numeracy, PSHE and SMSC

Active 30

The Government Childhood Obesity Strategy has set out the ambition for all children to achieve one hour of physical activity every day, with schools being responsible for delivering 30 of these active minutes.

At Offmore our ambition is to help children attending our school reduce sedentary behaviour and increase physical activity outside of timetabled curriculum PE. This will be achieved by ensuring that break times/ lunchtimes are active and a variety of activities are available supported by Play leaders. As well as activities throughout the year such the daily mile, use of Go Noodle and BBC Super movers.

At Offmore Primary School, we believe that Physical Education (PE) has a significant and unique role to play in the ongoing development and wellbeing of the ‘whole child’. High quality PE provides pupils with the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to take part in a wide variety of physical activities and value the importance of fitness and health. It prepares our children to understand the benefits of exercise and to make informed choices. It educates them in the knowledge of the body and teaches children how to work with others, whilst learning about themselves, their capabilities and their limitations. Physical Education provides all children with a learning experience, whereby they are encouraged to use their body effectively and efficiently and develop an understanding of how their body works.

 Latest Sports News

We are delighted to announce that Offmore Primary School has been awarded a School Games Mark award recognising our efforts to promote physical activity and keep our school community active since Lockdown.

Our super children and families have worked hard to keep active and fit during Lockdown. Each week Teachers have sent out challenges provided by the Wyre Forest Sports Partnership. The challenges have ranged from collecting socks to make pairs, spotty dogs, skipping, throwing challenges, target challenges and many more. Lots of our children have sent their Teachers photos of them walking, cycling, on their trampolines and finding many interesting ways to get their exercise during these difficult times.

Well done to everyone and please keep up the good work. Physical activity is so important and helps us all with our health and mental well- being. Remember take care of your body and it will take care of you!

Be smart, Be proud, Be Offmore. !!!!
