Year 1 & 2 - Nightingales
Welcome to the Nightingales page! We are a happy class who always try to be the the best that we can be. We work hard and we play hard and absolutely enjoy learning and having fun together!
Your class teacher is Ms Newton with amazing Teaching Assistant, Mrs. Millward.
The children have settled in so well and are already beginning to develop more independent learning skills. Every day they be smart, be proud and be Offmore!
Thank you for you continued support in reading with your child at least three times a week. We are making amazing progress in Reading.
We expect the children to be reading at least three times per week at home and for it to be recorded in their reading diary. We already have lots of names in the raffle prize box which will be drawn monthly. Please keep up the good work and keep loving those books!
It can include any genre of book, comics, newspapers, fiction, non-fiction or whatever takes their fancy. We just want it to be a pleasurable time for them and to develop a love of reading. We really enjoy listening to the children's conversations about the books they are enjoying at home.
Homework and Spellings are set on a Monday and are to be sent back via Google Classroom. Everything on the same day to keep it nice and simple. The homework is to support and extend what they have been learning about in class.
We use ClassDojo to share our wonderful learning with our amazing parents as a way to communicate important messages that are specifically for the year 1/2 children. We add photos of some of the exciting things that we do in the school and the children can send us pictures of the things that they do at home. Our children love to earn Dojo points throughout the day, and these are linked to the Offmore Values.
Autumn 2020- Animal antics
This term our topic is called Animal Antics. Our intention is for the children to have an awareness of animal welfare.
The children had an exciting start to their new topic as on Tuesday and met the class pet, Marvin the monkey. Where the children researched the origins of a Spider monkey, their needs and characteristics.
So far during Literacy we have re-told the story of 'Dear Zoo' using talk for writing and the children have wrote their own innovative version of the story. After half term we will be having another special class visitor and lots of work revolving around the Forest Rescue centre.
In Maths we have working really hard to learn about place value.
In Science we have been investigating life and living processes, linked to animals and humans.
In D&T we were asked to design and make an new and exciting animal biscuit. We had lots of fun taste testing biscuits to inform our ideas. Perhaps we will become biscuit makers when we are older?
As a key stage we are collecting lots of pet food to create a huge mountain to donate to the local charity.
We have also loved learning how to create an animal collage, using the inspirational artist Megan Coyle.
